Biography

FRANCO ABBINA comes from a family of Spanish origin that settled in Rome in 1200, he can be defined as a completely original painter who is foreign to any known artistic movement. Thus, he is an innovator.

FRANCO ABBINA also following the family tradition in the textile business, has always cultivated a love for art. Coinciding with his studies in economy he also followed deep musical studies at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He earned three grants at the Actor´s Studio and, in the theatre, has been the protagonist of many plays, among them “Le Diavolerie” by Alessandro Fersen in the Caio Melisso Theatre in Spoleto (Italy) during the Festival dei Due Mondi.

He participated in at least a dozen movies under the direction of Federico Fellini, Vittorio De Sica, Luigi Magni, Luciano Salce, Mauro Bolognini and Luigi Zampa.

His paintings have the merit of invention, of sunny colours, of the stories that make the spectator smile and reflect. His paintings have been defined by critics as “stories that involve the soul”.

The daily reality in which we are immersed is proposed anew in the cultural versions of life itself.

He emerged as a painter by illustrating a book of poetry by the great poet ALDA MERINI, candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. ALDA MERINI immediately showed her admiration and consideration for this artist: “…what I love about this poet, painter and writer is his ironic reflections on human defects. I am captivated by this caricatures full of poison and strength…”

He also collaborated with the famous scenographer EMANUELE LUZZATI, nominated twice for Oscar in Hollywood.
